The Purpose Of Life

In the name of Allah the Creator the Owner of the universe.

This is my first post after so many years of absence from writing. Let's fine tune everything in our mind, why I write, why you access my blog and why you read and will possibly keep or forget whatever you find in this post.

Salaam. The Quran elucidates that the essence of life lies in worshiping God, while concurrently asserting His self-sufficiency and omnipotence, rendering Him exempt from the need for worship, yet maintaining obedient Angels for this purpose. 

In light of this, questions may arise regarding whether Islam truly addresses life's ultimate purpose. Additionally, while physical forces cannot harm God, He is provoked by thoughts or speech such as blasphemy and disbelief, as evident in Quranic discourse. This raises the inquiry: does the concept of God solely reside in the mind, as a mere thought?

Among God's creations, humans hold a unique status. In a world fraught with both good and evil, humans are tasked with establishing moral excellence and enriching their lives with both worldly and spiritual pleasures. As stated in the Holy Quran, "And I have created Jinn and men so that they should worship me" (51:57).

So, what constitutes worship? It entails obeying Allah's commandments and seeking His pleasure. fasting and praying are among the examples of obeying Allah. If these acts were inherently worship, performing them more frequently would be rewarding. However, certain times for prayer are prohibited, and fasting is forbidden on days like Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adhaa. One Islam scholar likens this to the relationship between a married couple, where similar acts garner different outcomes based on the context, indicating that acts themselves are not worship; rather, worship is obedience to God.

In Islamic philosophy, life holds profound significance. As beings created by God, humans embark on a journey where the potential for spiritual and worldly advancement knows no bounds. However, humans lack the authority to determine their life's purpose, as they did not choose to enter this world nor will they leave it by their own volition. Ultimately, the purpose of life for God's creation is to find Him and surrender oneself to His will.

This can be achieved through two means: striving for moderation in worldly pursuits and serving humanity, as well as establishing a profound connection with God through external and internal devotion. The ultimate goal and fulfillment of existence lie in connecting with God, with acts of righteousness serving as mere instruments toward this end.

The essence of life is not defined by ritualistic prayer alone but by actively utilizing these practices and virtuous acts to seek God and devote one's heart to pleasing Him. True fulfillment is attained when one reaches spiritual zenith and establishes a divine communion with God, forming the cornerstone of Islam.

Some individuals may take God's love for granted, only turning to Him in times of distress, neglecting their spiritual growth and service to humanity in moments of ease. However, believers are reminded of their duty to express gratitude for God's mercy during peaceful times.

Contrary to claims of aloofness, God is intimately involved with His creation, especially with those who sincerely worship Him and demonstrate humility, compassion, and honesty. Those who have found God experience contentment and peace within themselves, knowing that their efforts to seek His love are never in vain.
